I love to put acromegali/gigantism features into everything, dudes and monsters. There is a big bump in Andre the Giants head over his right brow that is a ref mark for many of my faces, so this guy goes right to my heart. sorry about the mold

IGO

I made that very point to Brandon before publication , Igo at the Top! Nobody listens to me. You are moving up. By god you are moving up or we are having a meeting.
The Mom effect. The old mom at Comic-con trick. Totally worked.
Dude and those booths are'nt like Artist Alley where you can stroll in or out, go get a turkey sandwich and look at some stuff, somebody really has to be in there at all times. So that third person means going from being in there %50 of the time to %33 of the time, even just mentally seemed like a big deal.
We got lucky with the parents, she can totally sit there and talk about the stuff, knows a lot of the names, having been super supportive and well informed over the years. Lot of fun to have her there and I think she's going next year.

This is awesome. The School of SPIDERZERO. If I was in L.A. you would have to beat me away with a stick. I know Brandon feels the same way, hopefully we can visit on our first trip to California. Let us know any way we can help. You are doing some of the most cutting edge stuff , some of my favorite stuff and I know anybody who even visits the place will be better for it sculpting wise.

Damn that painted one is freaking me out a little, great scary eyes and teeth . Me ,you and Brandon watching the Eisner's that night was a con highlight looking back. You know it's laid back when the security guard is saying to add a lime to the beer. Claremont fumbling over the french names was a classic convention memory. Oh well at least he gave us the X-men's best run. He had a cameo in one of those Xmen movies. Those CoilHouse girls are all so cool, I have never felt more hickish. alright this thing is tight as hell

Great seeing you at the con. I was just about to ask how you did the light texture over it all. Man the wrinkles are great and so sharp. You've got so many different kinds of wrinkles , almost no two are the same. It's like Bernini up in here.

Wassup. Thanks for posting. So on the next sculpt mix in some black FIMO so the sculpey will become grey, or get Sculpey FIRM which comes already grey. That will help you to see the true surface and deal with the grime issue a bit, they all get dirty.
Good boobs so far, the proportions are looking good, don't let the head get any bigger, when you put her trapezius muscles on you might want to lengthen the neck just a hair, this is always good on females, long legs, long necks are good visually. Keep us updated with the pics.
We totally knew Stephen Hughes , the original Lady Death artist. He passed away about ten years ago now. He always had a huge posse around him, Lady Death was so freaking huge at that time, monster hit. He was a cool dude and I'm still proud to say he bought an original Lady Death that Brandon had sculpted in the early days. See you down there playa.

Talking Shop » Being paid for a broken sculpture Aug 31, 2010 05:32 PM (Total replies: 4)

The story about Bowen, I should say we went on to another 12 or 13 pieces with Randy, I think that was literally the first piece we did with him. So it worked out in the long run and like I'm saying I actually wish we had not removed our names from it.
My point is that as Artist's, capital A, it is so super easy for our pride to get hurt. We start questioning ourselves and all of that fun stuff. If someone pisses me off it sucks, what I really hate is when I piss myself off, or I'm dissapointed in what I've done, thats the most important thing to avoid. Digressin'

Whats up , this is cool. I love working in wood, sometimes to relax I'll just screw and woodglue 2x4 s into a table or shelves. It takes me back to a simpler time whne I was just trying to make cool rubber band guns for my Mom's arts and crafts shows. That last post most of them are coming up red x's . Love the in progress pics as always.

I have never heard of ketonatus, so I'm not sure. With the Rubbing/Isopropryl alcohol and the wrinkles definitely just use super small amounts and do little tests before you go into the wrinkles and effect them, it takes a sec to get used to what it will and wont do. It can definitely mess up detail but used properly it can also make stuff look tighter and cleaner with a good fine paint brush.

Whats up. Yes this is a good post because we all have to deal with stuff like this, basically the grey area between being an artist and a business person. We were really pissed when Bowen took the head off our Black Panther bust way back in the day. I was like hey take our name off of it. That was the artist in us, our ego had been hurt. This kind of stuff happens all the time.
I later regretted taking our name off of it because when the ads ran something like the Wolverine bust was on the page right next to the Black Panther bust in ToyFare ( or something) and we were like doohh! we would have had ads on pages right next to each other. This story does not have a good point , nor is it trying to steer you in any direction, it's only to say this kind of thing happens on a lot of projects. You get your feelings hurt, somebody over there feels like sculptors are a dime a dozen , and they don't have to pay because of whatever reason. This is the lot of the freelance sculptor.
The relationship is never tested when things are going good, only when things are going poorly. What we try to do is get name credit, that is the best way to get traction.

Tight work and great pose, as usual:). I'm enough of an old comic nerd that I can get into sculpting almost any character. Back in the day the first character Toybiz tried to give us and I think we even started working on was Glitterspike, from Marvel. Think male Dazzler not as cool. We were even excited for him. As long as it's genre stuff. As a kid this Joker was scary to me, in his day I mean he seemed more unpredictable than other Batman foes for sure.

Good to see you man. This thing is huge and awesome. You being in the forum forever and the webcast and everything I really looked at this guy and here are 3 things you might consider if you are still in progress with him. Possibly beef up his ears, make his neck bigger by putting a piece right under and to the side of his jaw. That will make him visually more menacing.
Ok and on his left arm cheat the front of the shoulder longer, that front deltoid, put some clay on the top of it and the bottom of it so that it is longer and going down further into the bicep. I hope that makes sense and helps. Thanks for coming in

You love Superman. Two spare time Superman's , is there a story here, that Christopher Reeve one had to take a long time.

These are awesome and both think pieces. I love them both. Photobucket is notorious for funny editing like that. There is a penis on our Dalkiel piece but because he's crouched over almost nodbody sees it. The painting on these is exceptional. I'm a big fan of frogs, and turtles.
